“Be a first rate version of yourself, not a second rate version of someone else.”
Judy Garland
Frances Ethel Gumm, who went by the stage name Judy Garland, was an American actress and singer best known for playing the part of Dorothy Gale in “The Wizard of Oz”. This quote is so powerful when it comes from Garland’s lips because she had a pseudonym and earnt her living portraying others! The message is clear though – be proud of who YOU are, be the best YOU you can be, and let others model themselves on YOU!

Great quote. I didn’t realise that Judy Garland was a pseudonym. No reason why it shouldn’t be, of course as many writers and actors use pseudonyms. I wonder how they choose their stage or author’s names. I hope you are well today, Andrew.

Hi Andrew. I wouldn’t have a clue what pseudonym I’d use for my blog. I’m so used to being myself, just Ellie. I wasn’t born as Ellie. My birth name was Jacqui but I didn’t like it and changed it many years ago to a name that I’m much more comfortable with. I can’t remember what year is was other than it was way before I began writing my blog in 2014.
I’m currently sitting in the library, reading for a while before I go into my counselling session in about an hour’s time. I don’t have many sessions left now and am very fearful of being on my own with all my‘stuff’ as I’ve written about on my blog recently. Other than that, I’m well, thank you 😊.

My High School yearbook quote was, “if you can be anyone at all, wouldn’t it be best if you could just be yourself?” It came out of a rare moment of stillness in the tornado that was my mouth and mind back Zen. And then years later, I did an adoption search for my dad and we learned that we have a paternal familial connection to Frances Gumm. And here I am reading your post right Tao. Synchronicity. Thank you Sage Page.
