Thought of the Day: Murder

Left handed people are less likely to get away with murder.

Oh, but it is not true that left-handed people are less likely to get away with murder! There is no scientific evidence to support the idea that left-handed people are more likely to commit crimes or be caught for them.

In fact, handedness has no significant correlation with criminality or criminal behavior. It is a common myth that left-handedness is associated with negative personality traits or criminal tendencies, but this is not supported by scientific research.

Handedness is a biological trait that is determined by genetic and environmental factors, and it is estimated that about 10% of the population is left-handed. Left-handed people are just as capable of committing or avoiding crimes as right-handed people, and any claims to the contrary are unfounded.

It is possible that the direction of a stab could be established based on the wound pattern and the handedness of the assailant. If the stab wound is angled in a particular direction, it may suggest that the assailant was left-handed or right-handed.

However, this does not necessarily mean that the number of suspects can be cut down. It is possible that more than one left-handed suspect could be involved, or that the wound pattern could be influenced by other factors, such as the position of the victim or the angle of the knife.

In any murder investigation, the police and forensic experts will consider a wide range of evidence and factors to identify and eliminate potential suspects, including physical evidence, witness testimony, and motive. The handedness of the assailant may be one factor among many, but it is unlikely to be the sole or decisive factor in identifying a suspect.
