Advice of the Day: Diets

It is not a good idea to tell your partner that their diet is not working for a few reasons.

Firstly, it can be hurtful and demotivating to your partner. Dieting and weight loss can be sensitive and personal issues, and telling someone that their efforts are not paying off can be discouraging and damaging to their self-esteem.

Secondly, it can cause unnecessary tension and conflict in the relationship. Criticizing your partner’s diet can be interpreted as criticism of their personal choices and can lead to arguments and hurt feelings.

Thirdly, it may not be your place to comment on your partner’s diet. Your partner may have a specific plan or goal in mind that you are not aware of, and it is important to respect their autonomy and decisions.

Instead of criticizing your partner’s diet, it may be more helpful to offer support and encouragement. You could ask them how their diet is going, offer to prepare healthy meals together, or suggest other activities that can support their health goals.

Overall, it is important to be mindful and supportive when it comes to your partner’s diet and weight loss journey. Telling them that their diet is not working can be harmful and counterproductive, and it is better to offer support and encouragement instead.

It is difficult to provide an exact number of different types of diets in the USA and the UK as new diet trends and variations are constantly emerging. However, there are several popular diets that are well-known in both countries, such as the Mediterranean diet, veganism, low-carb diets, and intermittent fasting.

In terms of the estimated proportion of adults on diets in the USA and UK, this varies depending on the source and the specific definition of “diet”. According to a survey conducted by the National Center for Health Statistics, about 49.3% of adults in the United States reported trying to lose weight through diet and exercise in 2017-2018. In the UK, a study by the market research firm Mintel found that 40% of adults had tried to lose weight in 2020.

It is important to note that not all individuals who are trying to lose weight may be following a specific “diet” plan, and some individuals may be on a diet for health or medical reasons rather than weight loss. Therefore, the actual proportion of adults following a specific type of diet may be lower than the overall proportion trying to lose weight.

Quote of the Day: Wisdom

“True wisdom is like an ocean; the deeper you go the greater the treasures you’ll find.”

Matshona Dhliwayo

Dhliwayo has published several books, including “The Little Book of Inspiration”, “The Art of Winning”, “Dinner with King Solomon”, and “The 100 Quotes of Wisdom for Success”. The quote “True wisdom is like an ocean; the deeper you go the greater the treasures you’ll find” means that wisdom is vast and endless, like the ocean. Just as the ocean has many treasures hidden within its depths, true wisdom also has many valuable insights that can only be found by delving deeper into its depths. The quote implies that the more one seeks wisdom and the deeper one delves into it, the more valuable knowledge and insights one will discover.

The quote can be interpreted in a variety of ways. One interpretation is that wisdom is not something that can be acquired quickly or easily; rather, it requires time, effort, and a willingness to explore its depths. Another interpretation is that wisdom is not something that can be learned from the surface level, but rather requires a deep understanding of its complexities and nuances.

Overall, the quote suggests that true wisdom is something that is constantly evolving and expanding and that the more we explore and understand it, the more we will discover its many treasures.

Joke of the Day: Dead Funny

Where are dead computer hackers buried?

In decrypt.

I saw an ad for burial plots and thought to myself this is the last thing I need.

At weddings, old people always poke me and say you’ll be next!

It’s so annoying!… so.. I’ve started doing the same to them at funerals.

I was at a funeral the other day and a couple in front of me were loudly arguing about which herb goes best with which fish.

I could only think it wasn’t the Thyme or Plaice.

I went to my boss’s funeral …

I kneeled down next to the coffin and whispered, “Who is thinking outside the box now?”

I don’t like how funerals are usually between 9-11am.

I’m not really a mourning person.

As a funeral director, I tie the shoelaces together of the deceased.

Because if there was ever a zombie apocalypse, it would be hilarious.

“I’m sorry” and “I apologize ” mean the same thing …

Except at a funeral

The man who invented the word search has died.

His funeral will be held next…

T T I S P V G K M P H J G U O N Q U X N M O N D A Y W Z B A T K T E N O P G H C V N K O T D I M

Guy who owned Odeon cinemas has died.

His funeral is on Monday @ 2:10, 4:20 & 8:40

The guy who invented throat lozenges died last week.

There was no coffin at the funeral.

Before I die I am going to eat a whole bag of unpopped popcorn.

That should make the cremation a little more interesting.

Thought of the Day: Winter

Winter is the only season you experience twice a year.

The longest winter on Earth lasts for around six months in the interior of the continent of Antarctica. The winter in Antarctica starts in March and ends in September, during which the sun never rises and the temperatures remain extremely low. In the coastal regions of Antarctica, the winter is shorter, lasting around three to four months, with some light and occasional sunshine.

The interior of the continent of Antarctica experiences an extremely long and harsh winter, with continuous darkness and extremely low temperatures. During the winter months, temperatures in Antarctica can drop as low as -70°C (-94°F), and the wind can create blizzards that can make it even more inhospitable. Despite these extreme conditions, some scientific research stations are established in Antarctica, where scientists study various aspects of the frozen continent and its impact on the global climate.

The Sage at the Disco

A wise old Sage was dancing at a disco
In a way that was quite comical and slow
His moves were not too fancy
But he was still the life of the party

He may have been a little out of his age
But he shook his body and let out The Sage
He moved in circles and shuffled his feet
Making everyone leave their seat

He may not have been the best dancer there
But the crowd cheered him being very fair
For he had the wisdom to put on a show
And the courage that could only grow

He may not have had the best of styles
But he sure knew how to bring a smile
His moves were a bit outdated
But the crowd was still delighted

He had the courage to go out of his way
To show the world what he had to say
His moves were a from a time gone past
But the crowd still had a blast

He was the oldest one there by far
But he had a way of shining like a star
His moves were a bit clunky
But he still was kinda funky

He may not have been a pro dancer
But he still knew how to make the crowd answer
He may have been a little out of his time
But he became the life of the party in his prime

Advice of the Day: Dogs

Never trust a dog to watch your food

You should never trust a dog to watch your food because dogs are instinctually driven to eat food when they see it. Dogs have a keen sense of smell and are naturally attracted to food, especially if it smells good to them. Even a well-trained dog can be tempted to take a bite out of your food when you are not looking, particularly if it is left unattended or within reach.

Therefore, it’s best not to leave your food in the presence of a dog or any other pet, as it could potentially lead to them consuming something harmful or toxic. It’s important to always supervise your pets and keep your food out of their reach to prevent any unwanted mishaps.

Here are a few funny anecdotes about dogs eating strange things:

One dog owner came home to find that their dog had eaten an entire bag of marshmallows, including the bag itself. The dog was fine, but the owner was left with a big mess to clean up.

Another dog owner reported that their dog had eaten an entire tube of toothpaste. The dog was fine, but the owner had to call the veterinarian to make sure that the toothpaste wasn’t toxic.

A friend of mine once told me that her dog had eaten an entire loaf of bread, and then proceeded to “burp up” slices of bread for the rest of the day.

There’s a famous story about a Great Dane named Zeus who ate 43-and-a-half socks! The dog had to have surgery to remove the socks from his stomach, but he made a full recovery.

I once heard of a dog who ate an entire bag of fertilizer. The dog was fine, but the owner reported that the dog’s farts were particularly smelly for the next few days!

While these stories are certainly amusing, it’s important to remember that dogs eating strange things can be dangerous and even life-threatening in some cases. It’s always best to keep harmful substances out of their reach and to contact a veterinarian if you suspect that your dog has ingested something toxic.

Joke of the Day: Puns

I really don’t want to see puns about French eggs on Twitter anymore.

Un oeuf is un oeuf.

A friend of mine tried to annoy me with bird puns, but I soon realised that toucan play at that game.

My wife told me she was leaving me because she couldn’t live with me always making stupid Star Wars puns.

I said, “Divorce is strong with this one…”

My wife asked “Do you know any tennis puns?”

I said “No, they’re not really my forte love”.

I think the sun is getting to me, I’m trying to think of a good pun about ice cream toppings but I can’t remember any.

I used to have hundreds and thousands of them…

Orions Belt is a big ‘waist of space’…

Sorry, very average pun, only three stars…

I’ve always been nervous of posting Monopoly puns but today

I thought I’d take a chance…

My friend said I couldn’t make up any puns about Cuba.

I said “You’re Havana laugh mate!”

My wife said I was annoying him with all my puns about trees.

I said; “Ah, that old chestnut…”

My wife said to me “I bet you can’t make a pun about a flower?”

But I rose to the challenge…

Pun enters a room, and kills 10 people.

Pun in, 10 dead.

My wife says she’ll leave me if I keep making marine animal puns…

I said “I don’t do it on porpoise.”

You don’t see many philosopher puns on here…

I suppose it’s a bit of a Nietzsche market…

I think I’ve been making Motown puns for about three years, four tops…

Ladies, some advice, if he doesn’t appreciate fruit puns…

You need to let that mango.

My wife is kicking me out because she’s fed up with my South American animal puns…

‘OK,’ I said, ‘Alpaca my bags.’

If anyone has any decent fish puns, please let minnow…

Does anyone know any good sword fighting puns?

I’m trying to think of any words that have a duel meaning.

A good pun is it’s own reword.

My wife bought a new oven glove in a bright yellow colour.

I kept making puns about it, and now she’s not talking to me.

I probably did take it too far, I mustard mitt…

Not all maths puns are bad.

Just sum

My wife is threatening to leave me because of my constant puns about Africa.

Kenya believe that?

Ghana miss her if she goes…

My wife has begged me to stop making police-related puns…

I said, “O.K…..I’ll give it arrest.

I have to confess, I really enjoy my terrible habit of making puns about ‘The Sound of Music’…

It truly is my ideal vice…

It’s hard to explain puns to kleptomaniacs because they always take things literally.

I’ve been up all night trying to find a great pun for today…

And then it dawned on me.

My wife told me to stop making camera puns.

I said she should stop focusing on the negatives and develop a sense of humour!

She left me in a flash…

My wife just asked me if I’d finished making puns about small onions.

I said “Yes, that shallot”.

My wife has insisted that I cease making puns about classic Motown hits or she will leave me.

I agreed to stop, in the name of love.

Thought of the Day: Mirrors

Mirrors don’t break, they multiply.

It is possible to make a mirror at home using everyday objects. One of the simplest ways to do this is to use aluminum foil, which can be molded to a smooth surface and then treated with a reflective coating to make a functional mirror. Another option is to use a piece of glass or plastic, such as a picture frame or a CD, and apply a reflective coating, such as spray-on mirror finish or a solution of silver nitrate. However, these homemade mirrors may not be as high quality or durable as commercial mirrors, and the reflective coating may scratch or deteriorate over time.

The largest mirror ever made is the Gran Telescopio Canarias (GTC) mirror, which has a diameter of 10.4 meters (34 feet). It is located at the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory on the island of La Palma, Spain, and is used for astronomical observations. The GTC mirror is made up of 36 hexagonal segments and is one of the largest single-aperture optical/near-infrared telescopes in the world, capable of capturing highly detailed images of celestial objects. When it breaks that’s a lot of multiplication!
